| Ancic captured his fifth career ATP doubles title in as many finals, the first since Mumbai in 2006, while Melzer earned his fourth title in 15th final. His last title came in Newport two years ago.
“We played a great match today,” said Melzer. “It’s always tough against them. They used to be one of the best doubles teams in the world and now they team up again. They play well, especially on grass, that’s where they grew up. We took the deciding points in today’s match. I’m very happy because I’ve lost a few doubles finals lately. It’s great to win with a close friend, that makes it even more special to me.”
On teaming up with Ancic in the future, the Austrian added, “We said we want to play as much as we can but of course our main focus is on singles. But when we play we want to play a 100 percent as we did this week.”
Bhupathi and Paes were attempting to capture their 24th title together (23-10 in finals), the first since winning the Rogers Masters in Toronto in 2004. Bhupathi is 43-28 and Paes 39-24 in their career in finals. Both players will return to their regular partners at Wimbledon — Bhupathi (w/Knowles) and Paes (w/Dlouhy).
